More about Reiki
The word Reiki is made of two Japanese words – Reik which means “the Higher Power” and Ki which is “life force energy”. So Reiki is actually “spiritually guided life force energy”. Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing, founded by Dr Mikao Usui in the mid 19th century and evolved as a result of his research, experience and dedication. It is administered by “laying on hands” and is based on the idea that an unseen “life force energy” flows through us and is what causes us to be alive. Therefore, if we have low “life force energy” we are more likely to get sick of feel stress, if it is high, we are more capable of being happy and healthy.
Reiki is a non-invasive, simple, natural and safe method of spiritual healing and self-improvement that anyone can use. It has been effective in helping virtually every known illness and creates a beneficial effect. It also works in conjunction with all other medical or therapeutic techniques to relieve side effects and promote recovery. There are no contra-indications when giving or receiving Reiki.
Treatment is given by me placing my hands a few inches above each area of your body in a pre-determined sequence of hand positions, spending several minutes holding each position. These hand positions are non-intrusive and cover both the front and back of the body and are sometimes varied to give Reiki to areas where it is specifically needed. You may feel sensations such as heat, tingling or coolness using my hands or in other parts of your body, or you may feel very little. Many people experience a sense of wellbeing and relaxation, or fall asleep; sometimes a treatment can be energising. There is no right or wrong way to experience Reiki.
If this is the first time you are having Reiki with me, an initial consultation will take place. During this time, a form will be completed by you and we will discuss how Reiki can benefit you the most. Please allow up to 90 minutes for the initial consultation. For on-going sessions, please allow up to 60 minutes.
Reiki Training
Reiki One or First Degree
Depending on the size of the group this training may be held over one or two days, usually over a weekend. No prior qualifications are needed, but it is helpful to experience at least one Reiki treatment yourself before training. Training at this level is for self-healing and well-being, and the ability to use it for your friends, family and pets.
Reiki Two or Second Degree
This may be a one or two day training, usually other a weekend (again depending on the size of the group). Only those holding a Reiki One certificate are eligible. At least three months practice is recommended between Reiki One and Reiki Two. Holding a Reiki Two certificate allows you to apply for insurance and practise as a Reiki Practitioner for the general public.
A full year of practice is then recommended between Reiki Two and Advanced Reiki Training.
Advanced Reiki Training
Only those who have a Reiki Two certificate and have been practising at this level for at least one year are eligible. A 1 or 2 day training, depending on group size. This level is for people who have already taken both Reiki One and Two, have had at least one year of practice since their Reiki Two training and are wanting to make a serious life commitment to Reiki.
Some Reiki teachers combine Advanced Reiki Training and Reiki Master Training. However, not everyone wants to teach Reiki, and an Advanced Reiki Training course without the teaching component allows much more meaningful time to be spent on the student’s own spiritual development. Therefore I believe it is better practice to separate the two courses, as they are very different in nature.
Reiki Three or Reiki Master Training
This may be 1 or 2 days followed by self-development and personal preparation. Reiki Three is only for those who wish to pass Reiki on to others. You will learn the secret rituals of the attunements, how to plan training courses and ways of deepening your own connection to the Reiki energy.
Refresher courses
If you are keen to continue with your Reiki training but have had a long break since your last qualification, it is advisable for you to undertake a short refresher course before you continue (usually about 4 hours).
